In February 2021, I and several colleagues took a little leap of faith and launched the First Opinion Podcast, STAT’s weekly podcast to discuss the people, issues, and ideas that are shaping the life sciences. Lo and behold, people listened! After 44 episodes, including a double episode about Aduhelm, the controversial Alzheimer's drug, the podcast took a brief break during January and February. What surprised me was how much I missed hosting it each week. Thanks to the support of listeners like you, the First Opinion Podcast is back for a second season. The format will be largely the same: Each week I'll talk with the author (or authors) of a recent First Opinion essay and we will go where the conversation takes us. Sometimes we'll be joined by another guest with expertise in the subject we are discussing. The first episode of 2022 went live this morning: a conversation about the underground market for affordable insulin with Alina Bills, who has been living with type 1 diabetes for more than two decades. Going forward, we will release a new episode every Wednesday morning. I hope you will join us. You can find the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, PodBean, SoundCloud, Spotify, or your go-to site for podcasts.
