Parents and clinicians say private equity’s profit fixation is short-changing kids with autism

Private equity’s focus on profits has transformed a popular, personalized form of autism therapy called applied behavior analysis into “fast food therapy” and put far more pressure on both families and providers, dozens of parents and clinicians tell STAT.

“It’s just mind-boggling to me that this is the option that parents are left with,” said Laura Zambrano (above), whose son had received ABA. “Kids are being so ill-served.”
