Hospitalogists, This week the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference kicked off, and while I am not in attendance, it always brings a slew of interesting things to learn and write about. Today I'm taking a dive into AdventHealth's presentation, as a well-performing nonprofit health system. All presentations I find will be uploaded to the Hospitalogy community content library and I will break down notable themes/slides in this newsletter! For all the Texas fans in the crowd, I have a post-mortem on the season at the end of this newsletter. GG to Ohio State, and ...sigh..."there's always next year." |

The AdventHealth Mother Ship - Quickly Breaking down its Grand Strategy |
Headquartered in Florida, AdventHealth runs an impressive operation, and we got a glimpse under the hood with its JPM presentation. Here's its footprint as it sits today, serving 8.6M+ patients. |
Their clinical turnover is dropping, echoing sentiments from other large health systems in favorable metros |
Patient-facing investment and increased consumerism continues to be a theme in health system transformation. |
Along with building out a robust, dense ambulatory footprint. |
…A division which isn't yet profitable, but will grow rapidly and serve to feed the mother ship. |
In (mostly) favorable markets… |
…To reach $32B in revenue under management by 2030. |
But for 2025, AdventHealth is expecting $21.2B in total net operating revenue, and an impressive EBITDA margin of 13.8%. |
Finally, keep an eye on this area in Florida as a hot spring of growth for many players over the next 5 years. |
Through AdventHealth's Vision 2030 strategy, the multi-state health system is investing in its leadership pipeline (clinical and administrative), patient/consumer-focused connectivity, ambulatory care and physician alignment, joint ventures, and underrated but material things like 100% renewable energy by 2026. That's it for today's! Thanks for reading. Let me know if you liked this format fam. |

Random personal anecdotes and musings from me | The Texas Longhorns 2024 Season Post-Mortem: This season was objectively a great one for the Horns. I know it's terrible not to tie the game up when you're 1st and goal from the 1 in the semifinal, but Ohio State (at least to me) looked to be the better, more talented team. That being said, our elite defense did not deserve the way we messed around on offense for much of the season. Both the goal line stop and the terrible D on the screen play right before half will haunt me, but we still couldn't run the ball, which was befuddling to me given our 'vaunted' offensive line. We are losing a ton of talent for 2025 but also introducing some young blood into prominent roles, which should inject some energy into the program. Arch will be a gunslinger and downfield passer (something that I think tends to fit Sark's playstyle a bit better - stretching the field to stress the defense) and will be fun to watch, but I'm very thankful for what Quinn Ewers did for this program. He isn't an outward facing leader and somewhat lurks in the shadows, but back-to-back semifinal appearances and wins over major rivals will cement you in the history books of the Texas Longhorns program. Regardless, I'm looking forward to watching the players on this 2024 team play in the NFL and finally get some Texas talent back in the league in a real way. As a fan, you always want more, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the 'Horns this season. Revenge game coming Week 1. |
